While looking for songs to add to Amy’s playlist, I learned that Discovery Channel remade their Boom De Yada ad for 2020: “The World Is Still Awesome”. Considering the state of the world this year, it made me smile remembering 2008 me, fresh from (I had thought then) post-apocalyptic Palawan. Oh, my sweet summer child.
But they’re right, it’s still such a brilliant place.
And while I don’t have the privilege of traipsing about faraway off-the-grid places where masks aren’t required these days, I’m grateful I can still marvel at the world in the same way I did in 2008: vicariously, through stories others tell.
Here are some I’m reading now:
- This is not the end. Apocalyptic comfort from ancient Iran (A very 2020 read)
- How an Entire Nation Became Russia’s Test Lab for Cyberwar (Because I wanted to know how the chaos that started with 2016 all began)
- At Dawn We Ate Sugar Smacks: Wargaming Newbies Tackle the Monster of Monsters (A note: I am no gamer, but this sucked me in.)
I’m diagramming a user journey right now but I can’t seem to unblock my head and get into it. Here’s hoping a life-altering couple of hours reading will make the gears click-click-click into place.
